This season has been a record-breaker for the Nauset Boys Golf Team. They’ve come out strong with an undefeated 7-0 record, securing the top spot in the Cape and Islands league. Although the team initially faced some challenges determining their best lineup, senior captain Jack Martin remarked, “This season has been a roller coaster, but we’re steadying the ship.”
As the playoffs approach in three weeks, the team feels confident. Their Senior Night and final home game of the season will be held at Captains Golf Course on October 9 against Nantucket. For this match, the team plans to try something unconventional for high school golf: they’re calling on fans to “pack the course!” Inspired by Colgate’s lacrosse team, which celebrated a win by surrounding the final green, Nauset’s golf team encourages students to do the same and bring energy to the course. It’s a great opportunity to show Warrior pride and support one of the school's strongest teams.
In a golf match, the top eight players compete, and the best six scores from each team are added together for the team’s total. Nauset has achieved team scores below 240 in four matches this season, a remarkable feat. Their most notable match so far was against Martha’s Vineyard, where they set a school record with a team score of 223. In the same match, Martin tied the school record for individual score, now sharing the honor with Nauset graduate Will Campbell.
Despite the recent rainy weather, the boys are keeping their spirits high, spending time together off the course to prepare for upcoming challenges. Their toughest opponent, Barnstable, has one of the best players in the state, but the Warriors have already defeated the Red Hawks once this season, and they’re confident they can do it again. Only time will tell to see if they can maintain their winning streak. We wish the golf team good luck with the rest of the season, and go Warriors!
No Fair weather fans at Nauset! A little rain won't deter these super-fans from cheering on Nauset Warriors!
